Following an eventful summer at the St. Mary’s this summer, the Southampton fans will be wary of another transfer window approaching soon. Despite the mass exodus, Koeman and his relatively new bunch of players have done exceptionally well so far.
While key players like Lovren, Lallana, Shaw and Lambert were allowed to leave the club in the summer, the club dug its heels in when it came to the combative Frenchman, Morgan Schneiderlin. The French midfielder has been courted by several clubs since his move to Southampton and the player was actively seeking a move in the summer following the departure of several key players at the club.
While the club managed to keep hold of their star player after a lot of speculation in the summer, the winter transfer window poses the same threat. Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Saints midfielder, who is believed to be keen on working with his compatriot, Arsene Wenger.
Reports in the Italian media state that following injury problems and poor performances from the likes of Arteta and Flamini, Wenger sees central midfield as a key position to strengthen this summer and is willing to spend as much as 25 million Euros on the Saints man.
Schneiderlin is a wanted man and Arsenal won’t be the only club chasing his signature this summer, but there is no doubt whatsoever that he is the type of player that would cover a lot of Arsenal’s weaknesses and propel them towards the long awaited title challenge.
