Arsenal superstar Mesut Ozil’s £42.5million deal on transfer deadline day back in September for a culb-record fee from Real Madrid was greeted with shock and anger from various quarters. While few Real Madrid players like Cristiano Ronaldo was angry with his departure, former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas was shocked to see the Los Blancos letting such a class player leave the club.
Ozil’s Arsenal team-mate and Spain international, Nacho Monreal is equally surprised to see the talented German leaving Real Madrid in the summer. However, at the same time, he is equally proud to have him in the team.
“Mesut is a star and Real Madrid is full of stars. I did not expect that Madrid so let go. We are proud to have him,” said Monreal in an interview with Marca.
The left-back was selected for La Roja’s two friendly games against Equatorial Guinea and South Africa. The former Malaga star also reveals that joining to Arsenal was beneficial for him in order to break into the Spanish national team.
He added: “I think so. In Malaga year and a half and I grew a lot as a player. The move to the Premier League is a qualitative leap and jumped up. Becoming part of a team like Arsenal I think it helps.”
