No Spurs Approach For Young
Aston Villa caretaker boss Kevin MacDonald has said that there has been no contact from Tottenham about attacker Ashley Young, contradicting Sunday’s reports that Spurs had made a 16m pound bid for the England man. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: Even if there was, I don’t see Villa seriously entertaining it. I’d like to think that, at least.
West Ham Keen On Keane
West Ham manager Avram Grant confirmed that he is interested in Tottenham striker Robbie Keane. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: It’d be a good move for Keane and for West Ham, but can it be done without Spurs trying to use Keane to better their chances for Scott Parker?
Wigan Seek Double Swoop
Wigan have opened talks with Chelsea over a deal striker Franco Di Santo, and Roberto Martinez is also closing in on a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: Di Santo has a lot of potential, but he hasn’t as of yet shown his goalscoring ability in the Premier League. However, he stands to benefit from the many opportunities Cleverley should create.
Stoke Close On Wilson
Stoke City have agreed a fee for Portsmouth star Marc Wilson. Winger Liam Lawrence and striker Dave Kitson will join Portsmouth as part of the deal. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: Works out well for everyone, especially Portsmout. Lawrence and Kitson are both going to significantly help Portsmouth’s hopes of doing well this season, and it won’t come at a real cost, minus the loss of Wilson.
West Brom Snap Up Scharner
West Bromwich Albion have signed former Wigan man Paul Scharner on a free transfer. The versatile Austrian veteran is set to slot in as a central midfielder for Roberto di Matteo. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: I’m a bit surprised it took Scharner this long to sign with someone, but it’s West Brom’s gain. He’ll bring a lot to the Baggies, with his experience and outstanding versatility.
Spain
Mascherano Makes Barca Move
Barcelona have completed the signing of midfielder Javier Mascherano from Liverpool. (BBC Sport)
Analysis: And now we can all move on with our lives. Good for Mascherano though, let’s hope his family flourishes in Spain after failing to do so in England.
Italy
Milan To Move For Robinho?
AC Milan owner Silviio Berlusconi has hinted that the club could move for Manchester City forward Robinho. (The Guardian)
Analysis: There’s still the issue of them being a bit old in some areas, but I’d go as far as saying that, if they add Robinho to their ranks, the Serie A title is theirs to lose.
Germany
Werder Wrap Up Silvestre
Former Manchester United and Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has moved to Werder Bremen on a free transfer. (BBC Sport)
Analysis: Good move for Silvestre. He still gets to have Champions League football, and his experience and history of success at the highest levels will be an asset to Werder as they look to mount a title challenge and make noise in Europe.
Sigurdsson Set For Hoffenheim Switch
Reading yesterday accepted a bid of 4.25m pounds from Hoffenheim for highly-rated midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson. (Sky Sports)
Analysis: Surprising that he isn’t ending up at a Premier League club. He will sometime in the near future though. But prolific goal-scoring, playmaking midfielder, talk about a perfect fit for the Bundesliga. Could easily be one of the top 2010 summer transfers when we look back months from now.
