Transfer Rumors (19 July 09): Adebayor signs for Man City, Arsenal target Martins and Ba, Tottenham bid for Crouch, and more

It’s not the busiest of Sundays in regards to transfer gossip, but there’s a number of juicy tidbits to discuss in today’s transfer roundup.

And after you check out today’s roundup, make sure to keep up with all of the latest confirmed signings with the updated summer transfer lists.

England

Adebayor Signs For City

Manchester City have completed the signing of Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor for 22m. (The Mirror)

Analysis: Looked like he was going to stall for a little while longer for one reason or another, but getting it done quickly is good for City and for Arsenal, who can focus on doing their own spending now. Now it’s time for City to focus on reinforcements at the back, but they’re not having quite the same luck as they have in being able to add to the front line.

Arsenal Target Ba?

Arsenal could be targeting Newcastle’s Obafemi Martins (The People) or Hoffenheim’s Demba Ba as a replacement for Emmanuel Adebayor (Goal.com)

Analysis: Ba could cost more than Martins but may not command the same wages that Martins might, but if a move is made for either, I’d have to give the edge to Martins, due to his experience and success in the Premier League.

There’s a good chance that Arsene could just sit on his hands and go with the strikers he already has, but considering the injury and inconsistency issues that he had to deal with last season, that’d be taking a real gamble.

Premier League Return Beckons For Becks?

Chelsea and Totttenham are reportedly preparing bids for David Beckham. (Daily Mail)

Analysis: I could certainly see him returning to England, but I also don’t see that being a realistic possibility until after the MLS season is over.

Tottenham Bid For Crouch

Tottenham have tabled a 12m bid for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch. (News of the World)

Analysis: Crouch’s wages would be no problem for Tottenham, and there is his reported preference for London, but it might come down to preferences – immediate European football with Fulham, or a reunion with Harry Redknapp?

Spain

Zaragoza To Sign Uche

Real Zaragoza are set to sign Getafe striker Ikechukwu Uche for 5m. (Sky Sports)

Analysis: Uche wasn’t a full-time starter during his two seasons at Getafe, but he did score some big goals for them, and he’ll have the chance to play a pivotal role in helping Zaragoza stay in La Liga next season.

Italy

Fiorentina Sign Castillo

Fiorentina have signed striker Jose Ignacio Castillo from Lecce for a fee of around 1m. (Goal.com)

Analysis: Castillo acquitted himself well in his first Serie A experience last season after spending many seasons in Italy’s lower leagues, and he’ll provide a solid backup option in Fiorentina’s attack.

Germany

Bayern Give Up On Bosingwa

Bayern Munich have ended their interest in Chelsea right back Jose Bosingwa due to Chelsea’s refusal to part with the Portugal international. (Sky Sports)

Analysis: Bayern’s best hope to land Bosingwa rested on Chelsea being able to sign Glen Johnson, but he opted for Liverpool.

France

Lyon Sign Cissokho

Lyon have reportedly finalized a 15m deal for Porto defender Aly Cissokho. (Goal.com)

Analysis: It must be that the problem that showed up in Cissokho’s medical with AC Milan must not have been considered too serious to dissuade Lyon from signing him, since he passed his medical at Lyon without any issues.
