The Yanks hopeful friendly against Colombia breaks down near the finish line.

Jürgen Klinsmann and the U.S. National team found out on Tuesday, that they will not be playing against the fourth ranked Colombia in a FIFA friendly match in Sept. at San Antonio, TX.

Last month the rumor broke out that both Colombia and the USMNT agreed to a verbal contract, and the friendly between the two nations that made out of the group stages in the World Cup seemed all but set in stone. However, the Colombians and the U.S. began to see things differently when it came time to agree on a written contract to finalize the friendly, according to SI.com.

In result, the written contract was failed to be signed before the Monday deadline by Los Cafeteros, and the big friendly that was supposed to take place at the Alamamo Dome on Sept. 9 was history. According to Sports Illustrated’s Grant Wahl, the USMNT will most likely not be able to arrange another friendly for that date.

However, the Yanks do have two friendly matches confirmed for the reminder of 2014, but both will be in Europe. The first game will be against the Czech Republic in Prague on Sept. 3, and the second friendly will be against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin on Nov. 18.

Though, according to SoccerByIves.com the Stars and Stripes are in the works of getting two home friendly matches for the month of October, one of those games could be against Ecuador. Since, earlier in the summer the South American side was rumored of playing the USA in Oct.

Regardless, who the Yanks play in Oct. it will be very hard to make up the stern challenge the Colombians would of offered the United States. It would of been a great opportunity for Klinsmann to play the young players against the World Cup golden boot winner James Rodríguez and the lethal striker Radamel Falcao.
