Arsenal will be looking to overtake Manchester City at the top of the table with a win this weekend.

Arsene Wenger’s side are level on points with the league leaders and are second on goal difference. The Gunners take on a spirited Swansea side this weekend and will be hoping to maintain their impressive league form.

Arsenal crashed out of the Capital One Cup in the midweek after a 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday. Although Wenger rested several of his key players against the second division outfit, Arsenal’s performance was inexcusable.

Meanwhile, Swansea have been impressive against the top sides and Arsenal will need a considerable improvement on their League cup showing if they are to avoid another disappointing result.

Gary Monk has done an excellent job for the Swans since replacing Laudrup and will look to continue his side’s good form against the top teams.

Swansea beat Manchester United at home earlier this season and came away with a draw from Stamford Bridge. The Welsh outfit will be looking for a similar performance against Arsene Wenger’s team.

Since the defeat against Olympiakos, Arsenal are in imperious form and have picked up vital wins against Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Everton.

Wenger will be hoping to put things right after their League cup exit on Tuesday and with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil coming back into the side, Arsenal will have enough firepower to dismantle the Welsh outfit.

Swansea vs Arsenal: Team News

Swansea City will have benefitted from not having to play in the Capital One Cup in midweek and Gary Monk will be delighted to have a fully fit squad to choose from.

Swansea are expected to field the same eleven from their last outing. However, former Southampton midfielder Jack Cork could return to add more defensive steel in front of their back four.

As for Arsenal, the Londoners are plagued with injuries and their defeat against Sheffield Wednesday went from bad to worse when Walcott and Chamberlain went off injured.

They will join the likes of Rosicky, Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Welbeck and Ospina on the sideline as Arsenal prepare to sustain their title challenge with a depleted squad.

Left back Kieran Gibbs is expected to come in as a left winger and Olivier Giroud is expected to start in place of the injured Theo Walcott.
