The 2023-24 NBA season started yesterday with two primetime matchups. Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets beat the Lakers 119-107 for their first win of the season. Later in the evening, the Suns played on the road vs. Golden State and won 108-104. Tonight, the rest of the league will make the ’23-24 regular season debuts.

One of the most highly anticipated games happening tonight is the Mavericks vs. the Spurs. The 2023 #1 overall pick Victor Wembanyama will be making his regular-season debut in the NBA. The 19-year-old’s talent level is off the charts for his size and he’s going to be special for San Antonio this season. Wembanyama and the Spurs will host Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks tonight.

Long before the 2023 NBA Draft took place, many knew who the #1 pick was going to be. Victor Wembanyama had been on the radar of NBA scouts for quite some time. A player with his skill size and talent is hard to come by. All 30 teams around the league wanted a chance to draft Wemby, but only the Spurs got lucky enough to get the first overall pick.

At seven-foot-four, Wembanyama has already proved to be a nightmare on defense from what we’ve seen. He looked incredible on defense in San Antonio’s preseason action. Wembanyama had five blocks in his last preseason game played. Not to mention that he scored over 15 points in each of his four preseason games played. He had 20+ points in two of those contests.

Heading into his first game, Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs are underdogs at home to the Mavericks. Dallas is running it back with the duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving for the 2023-24 season. They didn’t have a lot of success after Irving was traded to the team, but the potential for their roster is certainly there. Tonight’s matchup should be a good test to see where both teams are at to start the season.
