We have been tracking Roma striker Mattia Destro’s transfer situation throughout the past summer. It was believed the Italian who was frustrated with his limited gametime in the Italian capital would leave the club. Chelsea were interested to sign the 23 year old but the player stayed put at the club. It was believed that the situation would improve and he would given more gametime but in reality things have worsened.
Destro has featured in 17 appearances, 8 of which came from the bench, yet he has managed to hit the back of the net 5 times this season. A couple of days ago we reported that his agent Claudio Vigorelli will meet with Arsenal in London after the player himself rejected a €15m move to Torino.
However after Roma scraped past Empoli by 2-1 through a controversial penalty last night in the Coppa Italia, manager Rudi Garcia has claimed that Destro is going nowhere.

The trusted and reliable Gianluca Di Marzio website have quoted Garcia saying, “Destro is currently a Roma player and will remain a Roma player. I can’t speak regarding the financial considerations surrounding him, but from a technical point of view, I have already made my point”.

The recent developments would come as a huge blow to Arsenal who now have to look elsewhere to find a player of Destro’s potential. Despite Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud in the squad, the Italian would no doubt have brought an extra dimension in attack for te North London side. Destro has enough talent to be an instant star and his uncanny ability to score at half chances could have seen Arsenal challenging for the title next season.
