Roma striker Matija Destro, could be on his way to Chelsea, the player’s agent Claudio Vigorelli has confirmed. In an interview given to reputed Italian website alfredopedulla.com, Vigorelli stated that Blues’ manager Jose Mourinho is a big fan of Destro, and was interested in pursuing the 23 year-old. He also confirmed interest from AC Milan for the player.

Vigorelli has said that his client Destro is “at the centre of some important situations that could develop”, which means that a deal may not be too far away. There have clearly been meetings between the parties regarding a move, as can be interpreted from Vigorelli’s comments.

Destro is valued at around €25 million by Roma, and has also been linked with a move to Totteham Hotspur. There was talk of Chelsea lowering the transfer fee by involving Fernando Torres in the deal, with the Spaniard going on loan to the Italian capital for one season. But Mourinho has confirmed this week that it is unlikely that Torres will leave the club, despite being dropped from the squad in Saturday’s victory over Leicester City.

Chelsea’s only major threat in the striking department at the moment is Diego Costa. Didier Drogba is 36 and has lost most of his pace, while Fernando Torres is….well, Fernando Torres. There is a need for one more quality addition up front, and Matija Destro may be the perfect option.
