Chelsea youngster Charly Musonda is set to stay at Real Betis after the Spanish club confirmed that they are in talks with Chelsea regarding an extension.
Real Betis president Angel Haro confirmed: “There are interesting players that we are trying to keep, for example, Musonda, for which we have already spoken with Chelsea and there is optimism.”
The highly talented Belgian winger was loaned out to Real Betis during January on a six-month loan deal, but the 19-year-old has impressed with the La Liga outfit and they are hoping to re-negotiate the deal until the end of next season.
Musonda seemed frustrated with the lack of playing time at Chelsea and there were reports of him wanting to leave the club. The Belgian winger was being courted by the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Monaco and other European heavyweights a few months ago.
During his short spell at Betis, Musonda has shown his outstanding talent in patches and Chelsea will not want to let go of him now. The midfielder needs to keep playing regularly at this age and therefore, an extension of the loan spell makes a lot of sense for Chelsea as well as the player.
Tipped to follow in the footsteps of Eden Hazard and Kevin De Bruyne, Musonda can continue his development at Betis and then return to Chelsea as a first team player for the 2017/18 season.
