Manchester United’s record-breaking signing Paul Pogba has claimed that he is ready to start against Southampton at Old Trafford on Friday.
The 23-year-old midfielder was unavailable for the Red Devils’ opening day fixture against Bournemouth due to suspension, relating to the bookings he received in last season’s Coppa Italia for Juventus.
But Pogba has now declared himself fit for Man Utd’s first home game of the season against Southampton as he prepares to make his bow after returning to the club not more than two weeks ago.
“You have to ask the manager(Jose Mourinho) but I feel very good and have been training for 10 days. I am okay,” Pogba told Manchester Evening News.
“I am quite used to this (busy summer). I played the World Cup two years ago when at Juve and three years ago I was at the Under-20s World Cup as well. So I am okay. It is about your body and I have been training on my holidays.”
Pogba left Man Utd for free in 2012 after growing frustrated over lack of first team opportunity but re-joined the club earlier this month for a world-record transfer fee of £89 million, eclipsing Gareth Bale’s £85 million move from Tottenham to Real Madrid in 2013.
And despite becoming the most expensive footballer of all time, the France International insists that the figures of his blockbuster move to Old Trafford do not bother him.
“I am just happy to play football. I don’t even think about it. It has happened, it is behind me I am just looking to win the league,” added Pogba.
“My ambition is always be the the number one and be the best. So the objective is to win the league. We want to go back to the Champions League because that is where we belong.”
