Manchester United have landed another of their top targets, with Barcelona forward Pedro set to sign. Sky Sports has reported that personal terms have been agreed between the two parties and it now United just have to meet his release clause of €30 million.

It was rumoured that the Spaniard was re-thinking his move to Old Trafford after Louis van Gaal’s harsh treatment of his former teammate Victor Valdes, but the club’s Chief Executive Ed Woodward was in Spain today to personally finalise the deal. They have, in the process, held off interest from fierce rivals Man City, who were also looking to sign Pedro.

The 28 year-old has been at the Nou Camp throughout his career but has fallen out of favour with manager Luis Enrique. With Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar in the starting line-up for the Catalans, it isn’t difficult to see why. He did though, score the winner in the recent Super Cup win over Sevilla, settling an encounter which ended, quite incredibly, with a 5-4 scoreline.

But, there is no doubt that he remains an absolutely top-class player, and will guarantee to carry a goalscoring threat everytime he plays. United will know a lot about him, as he scored the opening goal in the 2011 UEFA Champions League final between the two sides, in a match that ended 3-1 to Barcelona.

Van Gaal has made some really smart signings this summer, bringing in the likes of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Memphis Depay. They are still settling in to the squad, but the Red Devils have won both their opening games in the Premier League. They will only get better going forward, and signing Pedro is a huge coup.

The attacking midfielder will leave Barcelona having won 5 La Liga titles, 3 Spanish Cups and 3 Champions Leagues.
