Liverpool v Everton Preview: Draw on the cards?

Liverpool v Everton
English Premier League
Saturday 6 February 2010
Kickoff: 12:45 GMT

Liverpool and Everton haven’t had the starts to the season that they expected with injuries and a spate of poor performances taking their toll. However in recent weeks both Merseyside teams have picked up the slack, with Liverpool taking 14 points from a possible 18 while Everton haven’t lost in their last nine Premier League games. In fact, their last defeat came at the hands of Liverpool, a 2-0 home loss.

Liverpool will be missing Torres, Benayoun and Johnson, although with home advantage and Kuyt in goalscoring form, they are still the favourites to take this game.

Everton might have Arteta back although he is unlikely to be rushed into such a high-profile game. Donovan is bound to give the Liverpool defence problems and with Cahill and Saha up front, Moyes, managing his 600th game, will feel confident that Everton can cause an upset.

Certainly if Everton play the same quality and tempo of game that they did against Arsenal, they will win.

Possible Starting Lineups

Liverpool (4-2-3-1): Reina; Carragher, Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Insua; Aquilani, Mascherano; Kuyt, Gerrard, Riera; Ngog.
Everton (4-4-1-1): Howard; Neville, Heitinga, Senderos, Baines; Donovan, Fellaini, Osman, Pienaar; Cahill; Saha.

Reverse fixture: Everton 0 Liverpool 2.

Last season saw Liverpool and Everton draw 1-1 at Anfield, while the reverse fixture at Goodison Park ended 0-2 in Liverpool’s favour. Everton last won at Anfield in September 1999, so while a Blue win is unlikely you wouldn’t bet against a draw here given past form.

Betting Tip: A 1-1 draw is priced at 5-1 – excellent odds and Paddy Power will give you a free £20 bet for placing a bet with them.
