Liverpool agree deal to sign €20m Manchester United target

Former AC Milan striker Alexandre Pato could be set to join Liverpool in January, according to reports in Italy.

Pato joined AC Milan in 2007 and enjoyed a great career in Italy but recurrent injuries disrupted his progress and saw a gradual decline in form.

The 26-year-old old returned to Brazil with Corinthians in 2013, where he has been able to resurrect his career. Now, he is looking to return to Europe again.

Pato has been linked with a move to Manchester United over the past few transfer windows. In fact, early this month, TalkSport reported that Pato had shown an interest in moving to England in the coming January Transfer window. Manchester United had reportedly made a deadline day bid to sign him in the summer transfer window but the deal didn’t materialise.

The 26-year-old said to Radio Globo recently:

“Next year I won’t be playing at Sao Paulo (his parent club), everybody knows that. I hope England or Spain. I do not know if I can stay with Corinthians. I just try to do as well as possible. In football nothing is certain, so it’s no problem to return to Corinthians. I am a professional.”

According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Pato could make a move to Liverpool. Pedulla suggesting that an agreement in principle has been in place between the two clubs worth €20m.

Corinthians president Roberto de Andrade further confirmed an “agreement in principle” and revealed Pato’s desire to play for a big European club.

“Pato had long expressed a desire to return to Europe,” De Andrade revealed, according to one report.

“Liverpool await, there are a few missing details, but Klopp will have a new reinforcement and for Pato the Premier League will be a new springboard.”

Although the credibility of such reports are questionable but nonetheless the prospect of Pato’s arrival at Liverpool is an intriguing one.

The forward now looks have sorted out his fitness issues, and looks in great form, having scored nine goals and assisted five in 24 league appearances this season.

Liverpool have plenty of strikers on their ranks but still Pato could be a useful member in Jurgen Klopp’s squad. He mainly operates as a left-sided winger who is capable of playing in the #9 role.
