Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has revealed his desires of returning back to management in English football for the umpteenth time in his latest video message that will be played at the FA’s 150th anniversary event in London tomorrow.
Despite winning the La Liga title last season, Mourinho’s future at the club looks increasingly bleak day by day as Madrid’s disastrous league campaign – 18 points adrift of Barcelona, third in the league at the halfway stage – is leaving a bad taste in the mouth for Real hierarchies.
Further, the relationship is strained on the ground of Mourinho’s falling-out with skipper Iker Casillas and issues regarding the club’s youth academy.
Although he has signed a four year contract at the club in May, it seems highly unlikely that he will remain at the helm next season. In his message to the FA, the Portuguese said:
“My memories from English football could not be better. In England you feel the real passion for the game.
“You also don’t feel what we feel in almost every other country, which is the passion for clubs. In England, it’s not just about passion for clubs, it’s about passion for football, and you feel it.
“I loved it from the first to the last day. I don’t regret my last day because after that I was lucky enough to enjoy Italy and to have and enjoy some success there and also in Spain, so I don’t regret the day I left.
“But I know that one day I will come back because English football means a lot to myself.”
Jose Mourinho would like to replace the iconic figure of Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but the 71-year-old Scot is showing no signs of wearing down and has given no indications of retirement in near future.
Also, insiders at the club have expressed their reservations about appointing the former Porto manager.
A swift return to his former club Chelsea can be a possibility but the interim manager Rafael Benitez can be given a lucrative long term contract if he manages to meet the demands of trigger-happy owner Roman Abramovich.
Manchester City could be a possible destination if Roberto Mancini is dispensed from his duty after the end of the season. However, the Premier League champions are looking to bring the former Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola to take up the charge at the Etihad.
