Ajax goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen has insisted that he hasn’t heard anything of the rumours that have linked him with a move to Manchester United in the summer transfer window. We had reported earlier this month that United are plotting £25m summer move for Cillessen to replace David De Gea, the latter who could be heading for a move to Real Madrid.
However Dutch media outlet Football Oranje have now quoted Cillessen speaking to Omroep Gelderland after joining up with the Netherlands national team in Hoenderloo, “I have not heard anything. First I want to beat Latvia with the Oranje and then we will see, but I have not signed a new contract at Ajax for nothing.”
There were speculations that United manager Louis Van Gaal turned his attention to Cillessen on the advice of the Old Trafford giants’ goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek, who is believed to be one of his most trusted lieutenants. It is believed that Hoek rates Cillessen very highly thanks to the player’s technical ability and natural athleticism, the similar traits as De Gea.
Cillessen though had signed a new deal with Ajax until 2018 at the end of last year, and the club have already stated they are not willing to let their number one leave this summer. Mark Overmars, the director of football at Ajax has already claimed that the club will do everything possible to keep hold of Cillessen. Overmars was quoted Overmars saying, “He is not for sale. No, not even for 25 million euros“
