22 June 2010
Argentina would remain undefeated in the 2010 FIFA World Cup with two late goals to defeated Greece 2-0.
The win eliminated Greece from the knockout stage while clinched first place in Group B for Argentina. Greece were able to play solid defense and keep the match scoreless until late in the second half. Argentina continued to push forward and attack which paid off in the final 11 minutes.
Martin Demichelis and Martin Palermo would score the goals for Argentina to give them the three points. It could have been a wider margin as Argentina had chances throughout but couldn’t convert. Several of the regular starters such as Gonzalo Higuain and Carlos Tevez were given a rest as Diego Maradona has seven new starters for the match.
Argentina will now play Mexico in the round of 16 in which they will be a favorite. Greece still has not gotten out of the group stage in a World Cup.
