Chelsea midfielder Eden Hazard has come out and quashed rumours about a move to Real Madrid in the summer. The Belgian has had a dreadful season at Stamford Bridge, and there have been several talks doing the rounds that he could be on his way out of the club in a couple of months time.
OK Diario journalist Eduardo Inda claimed during a Spanish TV show on Monday that a £32 million deal has been agreed to land Hazard at the Santiago Bernabeu before the European Championships in France in June. “Eden Hazard is done. The amount has been agreed with the player and with Chelsea transfer”, said Inda.
Hazard gives a different account
The player though, has stated in an interview to Belgian TV channel Antenne Centre Television that he was very much a Chelsea player, and no deal has been agreed on a move.
“I don’t know who’s saying that, but it’s not true,” said Hazard.
“At the moment, I’m at Chelsea. First, I have to finish the season and I still have a contract for four years. I’m there, and I’m currently feeling good over there. I want to be on the pitch as soon as possible. With Chelsea.”
The 25 year-old was the Blues’ best player by a country mile last season when they won the Premier League title. He scored 19 goals in all competitions, and was awarded the PFA Player of the Year Award. With Jose Mourinho at the helm, it seemed like he was only going to from strength to strength and establish himself as one of the best players in the world in the upcoming seasons.
His demise though, has been quite astounding. He has failed to find the net even once in 23 Premier League appearances this season, as Chelsea have gone from the summit to mid-table. It is a decline one cannot get his head around. Mourinho was sacked in December and suddenly, Hazard’s future at the club is very much in question.
His liking for French legend and current Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has been well-documented by the media this season. The latter is also said to be a big fan of Hazard. Everything seems to add up but for the moment, it looks like the Chelsea man is staying put in West London.
