ALVES

Barcelona star Dani Alves has been urged to snub interest from Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool by signing a new contract with the Spanish giants – but is still likely to leave the club he has served with distinction with no sign of a new deal in the pipeline.

The Brazilian joined the Catalans in 2008 from Sevilla and has gone on to be part of one of the most successful sides in history.

But the 31-year-old’s time in Barcelona looks to be drawing to a close with less than four months on his contract remaining, sparking his agent to reveal the full-back is likely to be playing for a different club next season.

But teammate Adriano says Alves should remain where he is with him believing he still has a lot more to offer.

Speaking to Barcelona’s official site, he said: “He has always been an important player since he came here and he continues to show that. He’s always in the Champions League ideal XI.

“Dani wants to stay here and if I would have to renew him I will do it because our friendship and due to the respect for him as a footballer and his performances.”

The question then, if he does not extend his stay with Barca, is will he go to Chelsea, United or Liverpool?

Chelsea already have strength in that area with Branislav Ivanovic and having cover in Cesar Azpilicueta when not playing left-back. United are reportedly keen on signing a right-back but Louis van Gaal is thought to be keen on younger options in the form of Tottenham’s Kyle Walker and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne.

Liverpool would seem the best option, especially with Glen Johnson likely to leave in the summer. But would Alves want to go there? He would certainly want to be at a club who are in the Champions League, which is hardly a certainty for the Reds.

The future of Alves, then, is very much up in the air.
