Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato has already passed his medical with Chelsea but the transfer move has encountered a late problem concerning the loan fee for the attacker.
According to reports from Sky Sports News, both Chelsea and Corinthians are locked in a debate over the loan fee paid by the Blues, who will have the option of signing Pato permanently in the summer.
This is however just seen as delaying the inevitable. The deal is likely to be completed before Monday, but it seems that the chances of Pato making his debut in the FA Cup on Sunday are increasingly slim.
Pato is a highly talented player but his lengthy history of injuries and failure to fulfil the immense promise he once showed during his time at AC Milan make him a huge gamble for Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink.
No doubt a move to Chelsea will provide the Brazilian striker a second chance to make it at the top level of European football.
Chelsea are also close to signing Matt Miagza before the deadline day. The 20-year-old youngster passed his medical yesterday and is set to complete his move this weekend. The Blues are reportedly set to pay £3.5m for the USA international.
