Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fàbregas has provided an important fitness update ahead of the trip to Southampton.
The Spaniard posted a photo on his Instagram account of him being back in training. However, he revealed that he will not feature for today’s game due to the lack of match fitness.
His post read: “Good to be back with the team. A little bit short for Sunday but feeling great.”
Fàbregas was expected to be a part of the matchday squad against the Saints, but he only returned to training earlier this week and is not sharp enough.
The 29-year-old picked up a thigh injury earlier this month and missed the game against Manchester United and West Ham.
The Chelsea midfielder has been in and out of the side since the arrival of Antonio Conte and it will be interesting to see if he can force himself into Conte‘s plans once he is fully fit.
Fàbregas joined Chelsea during the summer of 2014 for a fee of 27 million pounds and has been a key player for them. His absence from the first team this season has fuelled rumours that he could be on his way out of Chelsea soon.
However, Conte has confirmed earlier this season that Fàbregas remains a part of his plans.
