As Antonio Conte is expected to take charge of Chelsea FC in the summer, the Italian has already started working on recruitment plans for next summer.
According to reports, Conte is targeting to sign Roma’s highly rated midfielder Radja Nainggolan for the Blues, but he is likely to face competition from other heavyweight European clubs.
Chelsea have reportedly shown an interest in Roma’s Miralem Pjanic as well, and it seems Nainggolan is also on Conte’s wish-list as well for next summer.
Nainggolan has established himself as a key player for Roma in the last two-three years, and he is now a regular member of the Belgium national team as well.
Serie A giants Juventus are also reportedly interested in securing his signature, but chances are less that they can do so. The player himself revealed in an interview two months back that he doesn’t wish to join the Bianconeri, as they already have a star studded team.
“I don’t think that I need to go to a club full of stars to win a trophy,” Nainggolan said in regards to Massimiliano Allegri’s side.
“I’m happy here, and I want to win with the Giallorossi. It’s better to win a trophy in Rome than 10 with Juventus,” he said as quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport.
Chelsea are pressing ahead of Juventus and the Blues are ready to meet his €30m price tag as well. The former Cagliari player is known for defensive qualities, and certainly a player Conte likes. Nemanja Matic and John Obi Mikel both face uncertain futures with Chelsea, and it won’t come as a surprise if one or both of them is allowed to leave the club.
Thus, given an option, Nainggolan is likely to reject an offer from Juventus. Chelsea therefore are strong favourites here to sign the Belgian international.
