Roma’s director of football, Walter Sabatini has ruled out Mattia Destro transfer move to top European clubs in January.
Destro, the 23-year-old striker from Roma, has been on Chelsea & Arsenal’s radar for quite some time now. Last summer, there were reports in Italian media that both the Premier League are vying his signature and would be willing to offer €25m for his signature.
The situation of Destro has become complicated this season as manager Rudi Garcia continues to stick with veteran Francesco Totti in his favoured 4-3-3 formation, using Destro most of the time from the bench.
TMW claim that Destro is getting frustrated at Roma and therefore could leave the club in January with Chelsea & Arsenal could be his likely destination. The player himself said recently that he is flattered by the interest shown by top Premier League clubs.
“I heard about the interest from Arsenal,” he said on Radio Roma. “It’s always nice to see such clubs interested in you because that means I’m on the right track and that my work pays. However, I still have so many things to improve and I think I still have work to show what I’m really capable.”
However, Roma’s DOF Walter Sabatini says that Destro won’t be sold in the January. Roma are second in the Serie A table, with only three points behind Juventus. They have a great chance of winning the league and therefore are not prepared to sell any of their star players.
