Speaking to Marca, Real Madrid captain Iker Casillas stated that he believes Carlo Ancelotti is a better manager than Jose Mourinho.

During his time at Madrid, Mourinho fell out with Iker Casillas and in the process, benched him for most parts of the season and went public with his criticism towards the Spanish international.

Having won the La Decima last season, Ancelotti has established himself as a firm favorite at the club. Casillas further outlined the calming influence Ancelotti has had on the Madrid dressing room.

“Ancelotti is better than Mourinho. With Mourinho I had a love-hate relationship. In his time here I did not speak of him when he was in my locker room, nor do I think that I have to talk now when he is already managing another team and I’m with my team. It would be a bit self-seeking and little cowardly on my part”.

Further Casillas revealed that he wishes the best for Mourinho and that he would shake hands if the pair crossed paths again.

“I wish things go very well for him. In the time that he was at Real Madrid, he won titles and you have to give him thanks”.

If I cross paths with him tomorrow I am going to extend my hand, then it will be up to him if he shakes it. I think he would shake”, he added.

Further, Casillas also reflected on former teammate Xabi Alonso’s comments regarding Neuer being the best keeper he’s played with.

“It does not interest me what he says. In the last years our relationship has not been adequate”.

Casillas also revealed his choice for the Ballon d’Or.

“Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the Ballon d’Or”, he said.

When asked about Messi’s exit rumours, Casillas stated, “I would not sign him. We are very good with those of us here and accomplishing great things”.
