Mallorca v Barcelona
Spanish La Liga
ONO Estadi – Mallorca, Spain
27 March 2010 – 19:00 GMT
FC Barcelona can go top of the La Liga table and aim for third win in a row as they travel to the ONO Estadia to face 4th place Mallorca.
Mallorca v Barcelona Preview
Barcelona have won four out their last five but a 2-2 draw at Almeria allowed Real Madrid to take over first place. The two teams remain level on points with Barcelona trailing by two in goal difference. Mallorca are in 4th place heading into the weekend and vying for the last Champions League spot. They lead 5th place Sevilla by two points but trail 3rd place Valencia by six points.
Mallorca has done well with the third best home record in La Liga (behind Real Madrid and Barcelona). They have a 12-0-1 record only 7 goals conceded and a +26 goal difference. Barcelona’s only loss on the season was on the road but they still the league’s best away form. Barcelona has a +21 goal difference on the road and won two in a row since their loss at Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona will be without the injured Eric Abidal and Sergio Busqets is unavailable due to suspension. Mallorca will be at close to full strength with striker Tuni being the only missing player due to injury.
A win for Barcelona would put some pressure on Real Madrid (who play on Sunday) and is a chance for them to make ground in goal difference. Lionel Messi continues to amaze with his form but he is surrounded by world class players. One of these is Andres Iniesta, who was instrumental in both goals on Wednesday’s 2-0 win against Osasuna. Xavi and Pique will both be back from injury which gives Barcelona even more depth for Saturday’s match.
Mallorca have been a very tough team at home but Barcelona is on a mission to repeat as La Liga champions. Messi looks more determined than ever and they will have all their key players available for the match. It should be a close match but Barcelona can wear teams out in the last 20-30 minutes of a match.
