The transfer window is quite unpredictable and the situation can change quickly.
Only yesterday, The Athletic reported that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Cristian Romero, but his price tag of £34.5 million makes the transfer complicated.
Spurs have been linked with several defenders this summer, but Romero has emerged as a top target for the north London club.
We also covered a report from football.london that Spurs were in dialogue with Atalanta about trying to sign Romero.
Cristian Romero would be a really exciting signing for #THFC if they could get it over the line.
Very solid defender and there was a moment against Inter in March when he charged back to nick the ball off Lukaku that was almost King v Robben-esque.

However, the scenario changed dramatically as the day progressed, and now Spurs are leading the race to sign the highly-rated Argentine defender who won the Copa America this summer.
Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has now claimed that there are ‘talks ongoing’ between the two clubs and that personal terms have been agreed.
The price tag discussed is around €55m for the 23-year-old who was voted the Serie A’s top defender last season.

What should excite the Spurs fan base is that Atalanta are already planning to replace Romero, with Sven Botman being one of their targets.
Romero would be a cracking signing for Spurs. He is one of the best young defenders in the world, and he can make a big difference to the team.
Toby Alderweireld has informed the club that he wants to leave, while the futures of Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez are uncertain.
There is a possibility that Spurs might go for another defender this summer, with Takehiro Tomiyasu one of their prime targets.
