Arsenal v Sunderland
English Premier League
Emirates Stadium – London, England
Saturday 20 February 2010, 15:00 GMT
Arsenal looks to keep their EPL title hopes alive as they host Sunderland at the Emirates on Saturday.
Arsenal v Sunderland Preview
The Gunners appeared out of the race but a 1-0 win on Liverpool combined with a Chelsea loss has the gap to six points. Arsenal has hardly any margin for error and will need to win virtually all of their homes matches in the final months.
Sunderland, who had a strong start to the season, are only three points clear of the relegation zone. They’ve not won since playing Arsenal in late November (1-0) and scored only 11 goals in their last 12 matches. A win or draw at the Emirates would be a huge confidence boost for the club who now has to worry about relegation.
Arsenal still has several key injuries (Arshavin, Diaby, Almunia, Gallas) but has plenty available to win the match. The biggest question mark is goalkeeper for the Gunners, who lost against FC Porto mainly because of Lukasz Fabianski’s mistakes. The Polish goalkeeper has to play better if Arsenal are to challenge Man U and Chelsea.
Sunderland don’t appear ready to challenge Arsenal at the Emirates. The home side should win the match but it all depends on the play from Fabianski. If he doesn’t make any major mistakes, it will be three points for the Gunners. If it’s a similar performance to the Porto match then Sunderland could surprise.
