Mikel Arteta’s agent has claimed that the midfielder is happy at Arsenal despite interest from Italian side Fiorentina. Earlier reputed English tabloid, The Times had reported that the Gunners had slapped a £6m price tag on the Spaniard who has a contract with the London club till the summer of 2015.
The Viola believe that the Gunners aren’t willing to offer the 32 year a contract extension and the Italians feel they can prize away the Spaniard for as low as £3.2m. Fiorentina are desperate to conduct their transfer shopping quickly and are ready to offer the Arteta a two year deal at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has often praised his vice captain but Arteta didn’t look like a top four player last season, often giving the ball away in the middle of the park and his creative imagination looking entirely pedestrian.
But Arteta’s agent Inaki Ibanez suggested that his client is happy at Arsenal. “I have never spoken with Fiorentina. Mikel has one year more on his contract and he has no desire to go away from Arsenal.”
“He’s fine there and he’s also the team’s captain. I have not spoken with any club. If he’d like to come to Fiorentina? No, we’re talking about Arsenal’s captain, with all due respect to Fiorentina, he is fine there and he does not want to leave.”
