Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa is keen to see out his contract at the Bernabeu which ends next summer, according to Marca.
The right-back, who moved to Real Madrid from Liverpool in the summer of 2009, will see his chances of first team football diminish further this season after the club signed Brazilian Danilo to add more depth to the right-back spot, which also includes academy graduate Daniel Carvajal.
But the 32-year-old is firmly committed to the club, despite new manager Rafael Benitez’s clear stance on his limited playing time. However, Benitez is a big fan of Arbeloa’s versatility to play in a variety of positions as well as his leadership which could mean the former Spain international stays at the club for the remainder of his contract.
Arbeloa made only 12 Primera Division starts for Los Blancos last season under Carlo Ancelotti. He played 35 times in all competitions in 2014/15, scoring twice and providing five assists.
The defender has had a highly successful career both with Real Madrid and the Spain national team. He won the World Cup in 2010, and is also a two-time European Championship winner. He played an important role in Real Madrid’s Champions League win in 2013/14, as well as in their league win in 2011/12.
Arbeloa, who was subject of an offer from Premier League giants Arsenal last summer, has been linked with moves to the MLS over the summer.
But the defender is likely to stay on as a fringe player at the Bernabeu and move on to the lower leagues next summer for his career swansong after seeing out the remainder of his contract.
