Horse Racing Betting Tips for Tuesday November 9th

HUNTINGDON STARTING PRICES

HUNTINGDON’s card could be ripe for an upset or two and a buy of STARTING PRICES is the recommendation. Neither of the front two in the betting look bombproof in the mares’ novices’ hurdle that gets proceedings under way at 12.30 and in-form Donald McCain’s TARAGRACE (10-1 with SpreadEx in the fixed odds betting) has possibilities while 40-1 poke LADY DE VEGA is not out of it. Both divisions of the 2m4f handicap hurdle (2.30 and 3.00) could produce a funny result but it’s the junior bumper that gives us real hope of an upset. In the past five years this race has thrown up winners at 80-1 and 28-1 (twice) and the penalised odds-on favourite ALZAWAR is not sure to have things his own way. He has to carry a penalty this time and a couple who finished behind him that day – HERECOMESFREDDIE (40-1) and VERONA SNOW (50-1)– are not without hope. At the time of writing the market was set at 36-39 with SpreadEx.

Recommendation: Buy STARTING PRICES at Huntingdon

HUNTINGDON 1.00

Early pace is the key to success in chases at Huntingdon and, since the beginning of 2016, front-runners have a 62 from 215 record (28.8% strike-rate) for a profit of £191.65 to a £1 level stake at SP. Determining which horse will make the running is not always as simple as looking at last-time-out running styles but it’s hard to imagine that RAFFERTY won’t try to lead. He bolted up from the front at Market Rasen on his debut for Laura Morgan last month and a 10lb rise is unlikely to stop him. Handicap chasers/hurdlers have a good record on their second start for the yard after leaving the care of another handler, with six wins from 31 runners for a profit of £49.30. Backers with SpreadEx have the option of taking 5-2 in the fixed odds market or buying at 22 on the spreads in the 50-25-10 market.

Recommendation: Back RAFFTERTY in Huntingdon 1.00

NEWCASTLE 7.30

Amateur riders’ handicaps are rare on the all-weather at Newcastle with only five having taken place since the Tapeta surface was laid. Given how hard it is for professional jockeys to win from the front at this venue it’s no surprise that four of the five winners came form off the pace. The other, Athollblair Boy, sat in third of eight off a very steady early pace. Tonight’s 14-runner 6f amateur riders’ handicap features several horses who like to be up with the pace and it looks like being set up for a closer. BIRDIE BOWERS arrived on the scene late to finish a close-up 33-1 fourth of 14 over course and distance last night, is well drawn in stall 12 and similar ride could see him reward each-way support again.

Recommendation: Back BIRDIE BOWERS in Newcastle 7.30
