Aston Villa are eyeing up a move to sign Burnley winger Dwight McNeil according to The Athletic.

The 21-year-old is an alternative option for Villa if they fail to land Arsenal ace Emile Smith-Rowe this summer.

Dean Smith has already been active in the market but clearly has further ambitious plans lined up.

Emiliano Buendia arrived at Villa Park from Norwich City last month, and the Midlands outfit are determined to continue their assault on the transfer market.

Villa chasing Dwight McNeil?

The Athletic reckon that the Villans are now eyeing alternatives to Smith-Rowe having had a £30 million bid rejected for the Arsenal playmaker.

McNeil could be an option for Villa, and what a signing he would be for Dean Smith.

The Clarets starlet racked up two goals and five assists in 36 Premier League games for Sean Dyche’s side last season.

McNeil is one of the best dribblers in the game. His high intensity and direct playing style would suit Villa’s system down to the ground.

TEAMtalk has claimed that the youngster will cost more than £30m. Whether Villa are prepared to pay that kind of fee for McNeil is unclear.

Smith clearly wants to take Villa to another level, and it would be no surprise to see the club splash the cash once again.

Signing McNeil for £30m would actually be great value for Villa.
