A first page headline from Italian media outlet Tuttosport has claimed this morning that Arsenal will face competition from fellow Premier League club Southampton to acquire the services of Torino striker Alessio Cerci, the 27 year old who is dubbed as the ‘Italian Messi’.
The snippet mentions that Southampton are set to offer €12m for acquiring the services of Cerci, the player who hit the back of the net 13 times and grabbed an equal number of assists last term in 38 appearances for the Turin based club.
We had reported way back in April that Manchester United were also interested in the player whose future in Italy is far from being assured. Cerci had earlier admitted that he is undecided about staying in Italy claiming that he will be ready to consider offers.
Earlier AC Milan were also ready to swoop for the player but the deal has now completely fallen through with a Premier League switch likely. With Olivier Giroud now set to miss out for three months as reported by French media outlet L’Equipe thanks to the fractured left foot, Arsene Wenger’s desperation to sign a striker is now well documented. The Gunners are well short of attacking prowess up front as Yaya Sanogo is not experienced enough to lead the line while Lukas Podolski might leave the north London club before the end of the summer window.
