Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United – end of season party for Wenger?
The build-up to the game was dominated by Wenger confidently boasting that Arsenal were capable of beating Manchester United at the Emirates and that it would be the Gunners heading to Rome.
The United camp were relatively quieter, with the biggest news regarding United being a statement by Ronaldo about the death of the Real Madrid dream and news out of Germany that United had lodged an offer for Franck Ribery.
The game, for what it’s worth, was over in the 11th minute, when Cristiano Ronaldo scored a 35-yard scorcher, United’s second goal of the game, to silence the crowd and stun Arsenal.
The third goal – a scintillating run from a defended cross saw Park, Rooney and Ronaldo break away and Ronaldo crash in his second goal after a Rooney pass across the box – saw some of the crowd get up and leave.
Arsenal got their consolation goal but it was a cruel turn of events, Darren Fletcher getting the ball but the referee thought otherwise, blew for a penalty and sent Fletcher off, who will now miss the final in Rome.
