English Premier League
Molineaux Stadium – Wolverhampton, England
6 March 2010 – 17:30 GMT
The Red Devils can go top of the English Premier League table with a win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
Wolves v Manchester United Preview
Wolves head into the match above the relegation zone only on goal difference while Manchester United are second, one point behind leaders Chelsea. Wolverhampton were promoted from the Championship and it would be a huge accomplishment to stay up in the Premier League. Manchester United are looking for another EPL title and could get a two point lead with Chelsea playing in the FA Cup this weekend.
Wayne Rooney could miss the match and it will probably be a match time decision whether he plays against Wolves. Owen Hargreaves and Ryan Giggs will be unavailable for the match but centerback Rio Ferndinand is set to return. Injuries for the home side include Michael Kightly and Dave Edwards.
Wolves are the lowest scoring team in the league while the Red Devils are tied for the highest scoring team in the league. Manchester United have four out of their last six and are clearly the better team. Wolves are fighting for their survival in the league and their only hope is a 1-0 win or a 1-1 draw. They simply don’t have the offense and do not play an aggressive style that leads to goals. The only question mark for Man U is Rooney and if he’s not available, then the match could have a different outcome.
Even without Rooney, Manchester United has enough to break down the Wolves defense. It will likely be a close match as Wolverhampton will play defensive but United will be able to score goals in the second half.
