Maurizio Zamparini has been saying all these days that the Italian club won’t part ways with their precious talent Paulo Dybala, who according to the Palermo president will be better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in future.
It seems, however, the stance has softened, and the Serie A club are preparing to sell their prized asset to the highest bidder.
Zamparini has reportedly claimed that Premier League clubs Arsenal and Manchester City are interested in the 21-year-old.
Palermo have recored their Serie A status for next season (lying 10th in the league table), and Zamparini has instructed coach Giuseppe Lachini to rest the club’s top scorer for the remaining matches.
“I have asked Iachini not to play Dybala in these last few games,” Zamparini said, according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica.
“It’s possible that in the next eight to 10 days we will sell the player, and I want to avoid injuries in this very delicate phase.
“There is strong interest in him. In Italy there’s Juventus, Inter and Milan. “Meanwhile, in Europe there’s Paris St Germain and Arsenal, as well as Manchester City who would like to try and get him but must sell first for Financial Fair Play.”
Dybala has scored 13 goals this season and managed 10 assists in 34 league appearances for Palermo. The Sicilian club would demand a high transfer fee, in the region of £29m for Dybala, who rejected a three-year-contract extension in January.
Do Arsenal need Dybala? Well, there’s always a room to add quality players in the squad, but the Gunners are well stocked with world class players in the attacking midfield areas, the money could be better used elsewhere.
As for other teams are concerned, Italian clubs do not have the funds to pay £29m for one single player. Although, Juventus, with the Champions League money burning holes in their pocket, could challenge the Premier League clubs for his signature.
