You’ve got to feel for Sami Khedira. Over the past 18 months, the midfielder has grown from indispensable for Real Madrid to being a liability. Sandwiched in between is the World Cup win in Brazil. The 27 year old has hardly played this season making 12 appearances, 9 of them being from the bench.
He was also injured in the Madrid derby and is now under rehabilitation. We had also reported earlier that some senior figures at the Bernabeu are less than impressed with the German and have decided that he will only start a game for the club again “in an emergency.”
Real also have his position covered with the signing of Lucas Silva in the winter transfer window while Luka Modric is also recovering from injury and Toni Kroos is the guaranteed starter.
Khedira was also linked with a move to Bayern Munich with reports claiming that an agreement had taken place. However the player responded by saying, “I have no agreement with any Bundesliga club. My future should be decided yet, I have many options open.”
Reports from Inside Spanish Football now claim that Schalke have been in talks with Khedira and could be close to reaching an agreement. If true, the recent developments would come as a body blow for both Arsenal and Chelsea who have been heavily linked with the midfielder since the summer.
While Chelsea also have their options covered, Khedira would be a great signing for Arsenal given the Emirates side need an anchorman in the middle of the park and can build from the back. The Gunners could well push for a move for the player whose contract with the Spanish capital side expires in the coming summer.
