According to reports in Portuguese Media outlet A Bola (relayed by Daily Express), Manchester United had sent a scout to watch Porto’s Jackson Martinez. The Red Devils weren’t disappointed as the dazzling Colombian scored once again in Porto’s 2-0 win against Moreirense on Sunday.
Martinez has been linked with a move to London giants Tottenham and Arsenal while Liverpool are also interested in the 28 year old striker. However we had reported earlier that the player could move to Italy in the Serie A instead, as claimed by his agent.
Martinez’s agent Henry Pompey was quoted saying, “We know that it won’t be easy, but his desire is clear he wants to play in Serie A. He would be honoured to have this opportunity. He loves the Italian league and if he were to leave Porto, Serie A would be his first choice.”
It is believed that Napoli are very much interested in the player while AC Milan and Roma are also keeping tabs on the player’s situation. Martinez has been in stunning form once again this season having scored 21 times in 25 appearances this term taking his tally to 85 from 120 games for the Portuguese club.
Should United move for the Colombian, it would mean that Radamel Falcao’s career at Old Trafford will come to an end. But any potential suitor will have to pay €35m (his transfer release clause) to acquire the striker’s signature on the dotted lines of their respective contracts.
Italian website TMW have today reported (citing A Bola) that Porto are already preparing for life without the striker who is set to leave the club in the summer.
