Earlier this week, we covered that Arsenal were reportedly interested in signing Borussia Dortmund’s highly rated world class defender Neven Subotic in summer as they look to bolster their defensive options.
The Serbian international played a key role for Dortmund that won back-to-back league titles and emerged as one of the best defenders in world football at the moment.
Subotic, who is under contract at Dortmund until 2016, has made 29 appearances for the club in all competitions, has hinted of returning back to old form recently.
“We would like to prolong the contract with Neven,” BVB sporting director Michael Zorc told Bild on Thursday, per ESPN.
Arsene Wenger signed Gabriel Paulista from Villarreal in the January transfer window, but there is a need to add more bodies in defence, as Per Mertesacker’s future has come into doubt following his inconsistent form this season.
A lot will depend on whether Dortmund or Arsenal qualify for next season’s Champions League, but as it stands, the German giants are trying their best to keep hold of their star players. And rightly so.
