Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane is set to hold a face-to-face session with another club legend Iker Casillas to stop him from moving to the Premier League.
The 32-year-old had struggled to get games under Jose Mourinho last season and the trend hasn’t changed either under new coach Carlo Ancelotti as well. The Spanish skipper has attracted interests from Arsenal and Manchester City.
Zidane, who performs the dual role of assistant coach and club ambassador said:
“I don’t believe Casillas will leave the club but it is better to have these conversations face to face.”
Arsenal were thought to be interested in Casillas, and although they’ve signed Emiliano Viviano on loan, the Gunners would try tooth and nail to land arguably one of the best goal keepers in the world of this generation, should the opportunity arise.
Casillas needs to play regularly or else his position in the national team will come under intense scrutiny. Barcelona were also thought to be interested in him, but one can certainly imagine that it is highly unlikely Real Madrid will sell their club legend to their arch-rivals, under any circumstances.
