Aaron Ramsey, the darling of Arsenal fans everywhere, has been recently linked with a move to Bayern Munich, with Pep Guardiola reportedly eager to lure the Welsh star away from the Emirates. This is either codswallop, or Guardiola is simply off his rocker.
The 23-year-old midfielder, who vanquished Arsenal’s metaphorical trophy demon at Wembley on the weekend, ending a run of nine years without silverware, will almost certainly be staying in North London this summer, with the Daily Star’s report that both Bayern Munich and Barcelona are looking at Aaron Ramsey should be as worrisome to Arsenal fans as a sleepy child is to a London pigeon.
And here’s why!
1. Loyalty to be repaid
It has not all been plain sailing for the young man, with Ramsey suffering from recurring injury problems throughout his six years at the club, including a horror double fracture in his right leg against Stoke back in 2010.
Arsenal have stuck by the midfielder, much like they have done with Frenchman Abou Diaby, and it has been said that Ramsey holds the club’s loyalty to him in very high regard.
A move away from the club now would completely contradict these sentiments, and while the world of professional football can often become a playground for money-hungry mercenaries, Aaron Ramsey is believed to be an exception.
2. Ramsey now the centrepiece in new Arsenal crown
Ramsey has blossomed into a world class operator, and quite suddenly in the eyes of many. He is now arguably the club’s most important player, ahead of the likes of Santi Cazorla and £42m man Mesut Ozil.
With Arsenal collecting the FA Cup last weekend, courtesy of a superb effort from the man himself, the club are now targeting prolonged and sustained success, with Ramsey at the helm of a bright young Gunners outfit.
To sell him now would nullify the good vibes around the club. I’m sure most Arsenal fans would tell you that losing a player of Ramsey’s calibre this summer would comfortably remove the almost audible optimism now around the club after their first trophy since 2005.
3. Wenger would be lost
Following on from the previous point, the joy that the FA Cup win has brought the fans has seen Arsene Wenger return as the man the majority want to lead the club into new adventures, but selling Ramsey would see the veteran Frenchman slip all the way down the snake, and damage his image at the club almost irreparably.
The Gunners have started to be seen as a selling club, much to the obvious dismay of the fans, after the departure of some of the club’s most valued stars to rivals these past few years.
The absence of a piece of silverware for so long brought Wenger to the edge of oblivion in terms of fans’ approval, but that has changed, with Arsenal looking towards challenging for the very top honours next season.
Sell Ramsey <> Curtains for Wenger.
What do you think? Is Ramsey the one player Arsenal shouldnt even think about selling this summer?
