Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke will be in demand again in January if the reports are to be believed. Arsenal were already interested for the young Belgian in the summer and might go for him again, having failed to land a striker in the summer transfer window. And, they could expect a strong fight from Champions Manchester United, as per reports
The North Londoners were linked with several strikers in the summer, including the likes of Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. Having missed out on both of them; they had set their sights on the youngster but their bid on the transfer deadline day was rejected out of hand by Villa.
The 22-year-old’s future was well speculated in the summer. Following an interest from Chelsea and Tottenham, he expressed his desire to leave the club and even handed a transfer request. But, Villa manager Paul Lambert persuaded him to stay and after remarkable turn of events, he ended up signing a four-year-new deal with the Villans.
According to The Star, new United manager David Moyes is equally keen to get his signature over the dotted lines and could be set to try and lure him to Old Trafford in the next transfer window. Moyes was at Hampden Park to watch Belgium in action against Scotland for the World Cup qualifiers, and took notice of the former Genk player on Friday night.
Well, the story doesn’t present enough credibility, as one may ask, why would Moyes want to add a striker to his squad when he already has an avalanche of forwards at disposal? Secondly, it is more important for the former Everton manager to keep a close eye on his latest signing Marouane Fellaini, and help him integrate into the group, rather than going on a scouting mission for a player, who isn’t exactly required at the Old Trafford club at this moment. Nice attempt to spice things up!
