Manchester United surprised everyone with their transfer deadline day signing of Anthony Martial, who joined the Old Trafford club for £58m from Monaco.
The 19-year-old has become the most expensive player of his age, and at the same according to a study, he is also the most overpriced signing of the summer.
Martial has played only one full season with the Monaco senior team, therefore his signing is seen as a huge gamble taken by United. At the same time, he is highly rated in France, and many feel he can emulate Arsenal legend Thierry Henry in future.
Former England international and Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes that Manchester United overspent (nothing new in that) on Martial and that the youngster will struggle to live up to the high expectations.
“Will Martial succeed? I look forward to seeing him play, but I think it’s going to be a miss, because the money they’ve spent is an unbelievable amount,” Parlour told Sky Sports.
“For a 19-year-old kid, he’s not proven.
“If he proves to be like a Thierry Henry, which is what a lot of people are saying, then he could obviously be a great signing, but I think it is a massive gamble to take on a 19-year-old kid.
“With the money they’ve put out, I could be totally wrong, but I’m going to say miss on that one.”
Chelsea superstar Eden Hazard believes that the Blues can retain the Premier League title, despite making a stuttering start to the season, picking up only four points from their opening four games.
The Belgium international believes that it is always difficult to play as a champion, as other teams are determined to beat them.
“It’s difficult to play as a champion because everyone wants to beat you, everyone wants to kill you,” Hazard told Hypebeast magazine, via Goal.com.
“We wear the gold badge and it’s very good.
“We had a fantastic season last season, if we could do the same this season we’d be good.”
Chelsea are eight points behind the league leaders Manchester City. The Blues will be looking to close the gap when they face Everton this Saturday in the Barclays Premier League at Goodison Park.
