Arsene Wenger was right to join the club and pay a glowing tribute to rising Tottenham star Harry Kane, whose two goals sunk the Gunners earlier this month.
But despite Kane’s staggering progress, Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino says he still has a lot to do before he can say he is the finished article.
What remains clear is that the 21-year-old has come from relative obscurity to notch 23 goals in all competitions and spearhead Tottenham’s challenge for a top four finish, League Cup and Europa League glory. He has been the key ingredient in the White Hart Lane revival after an indifferent start to the season.
Even Roy Hodgson broke with the norm earlier this week to strongly hint Kane would be in the next England squad because he could no longer be ignored having shown such consistent high form.
And when the manager of your bitter rivals lauds your efforts, you know this is a very good player. “He grows and he has a good determination. He doesn’t stop, he keeps going,” Wenger recently told Arsenal’s official website.
He added: “When you have scored the number of goals he has scored, if you don’t put him in [the England squad], somebody will give him a passport to another country.”
Pochettino, meanwhile, said: “Harry has enormous potential. Today, he is already one of the best forwards in the Premier League. What he has to aim to do now, to continue his rise, is to work hard every day and show continuity.”
Kane resembles a cross-breed between Alan Shearer and Teddy Sheringham with his wide array of goals and general play from either a centre-forward position or a slightly deeper role. That is not a bad comparison for a player who only forced his way into the side in November.
