Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has admitted that he is a difficult person to work and live with.
The Spain international left Barcelona as a free agent and was recovering from an injury, which helped him struggle get a new club. Louis van Gaal gave an opportunity to train with the Red Devils’ squad.
Valdes recovered from long-term injury and signed a 18 month deal with the Old Trafford club. He was handed his first start in the final game of the last season. The former Barcelona star has been publicly criticised by United manager.
The 33-year-old heaped praise on his former manager Pep Guardiola and revealed he left the treble winners cause of the way he was treated by the Catalan club.
“I am a very difficult person to work and live with. My wife deserves the biggest of trophies. I was very lucky to have so many seasons with Pep Guardiola,” Valdes said.
“In addition to being a teacher to many of us, he was always able to communicate greatly with everyone and knowing how to adapt to talk to different people in the dressing room.
“That’s the most challenging thing for a coach, to adapt their own pride to be able to speak to everyone with their different egos.
“I recriminate myself when I keep myself in the margins and let people down, especially those who expect better from me.
“The day when I left Barca, because of the treatment I was receiving and my character, it didn’t go as I would have wished. I drifted and then just left, I’m sure people expected much more from me.”
Valdes could be allowed to leave United, while they will do everything to keep hold of David de Gea from the clutches of Real Madrid.
