Just because the January transfer window has slammed shut doesn’t mean the ol’ rumour mill can take a breather!

No, the rumours are just ceaseless. So ‘The Transfer Lens’ is back to try and extract the truth from the tosh…

1. Luis Suarez to Chelsea?

A real doozy to kick us off with then, with the Metro reporting that Liverpool monster Luis Suarez has become Chelsea’s top summer transfer target.

The newspaper claims that the Blues are lining up a £55m bid to ‘test the water’, with Liverpool unwilling to allow their prized asset to leave Anfield for anything short of a fortune.

Jose Mourinho has allegedly sat down with Roman Abramovich to outline potential summer strategies and transfer targets, with Suarez’ name placed high on the agenda.

The Metro continue to say that the Blues will face stiff competition from both Arsenal and Real Madrid in a race for the Uruguayan, with the La Liga giants said to have sent scouts to watch Suarez already this season.

Tom’s Verdict:

The report vaguely cites rumours from South America as it’s source, and while there may be an article out there somewhere, there really cannot be any truth behind this story.

Suarez signed a bumper new deal at the end of last year, and considering the obstacles Arsenal faced when trying to snap him up in the summer, it is highly unlikely Liverpool’s stance would have softened in a matter of months.

Also, Arsene Wenger said this week that a renewed bid for Suarez was not on the cards.

The only way I can fathom this type of story materialising is if Liverpool fail miserably in their quest for a Champions League place, but then the only plausible destination for the striker is abroad.

2. Ayoze Perez to Arsenal?

TENERIFE-CASTILLA 13-14

In the last hour, Italian transfer fire-starters Tuttomercatoweb have claimed that Arsenal are looking at CD Tenerife striker Ayoze Perez, with a view to a summer move for the free-scoring Spaniard.

Perez, who has 10 goals from 21 games this season in the Spanish second division, had attracted interest from Swansea, Manchester City and Real Madrid in recent weeks, but now it seems Arsenal have thrown their hat in the ring.

Saikat’s verdict:

This kind of signing is just typical Arsenal! But the Gunners do not need a young striker at the moment.

They already have Yaya Sanogo, who needs plenty of nurturing.

What they really need is a big-name, high-scoring striker a la Diego Costa or Jackson Martinez.
