I thought to revive it again, as we step into this fascinating period of January transfer window. In this segment, we will discuss about transfer rumours surrounding Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.
The Italian striker joined Liverpool in the summer for a reported transfer fee of £16m, from AC Milan. While he was mainly bought in to fill the void left by Luis Suarez, who departed to Barcelona, but his signing is seen by many as a big gamble.
What it turned out to be is a nightmare for the Italian striker. Not only has he struggled to live up to expectations, managing only two goals so far, but has been left out of first team recently by Brendan Rodgers. It has sparked wild speculations about his future with several reports even suggesting Liverpool could be willing to sell him, should they get a better offer.
Italian media TMW has published a report yesterday, relaying info from Sportmediaset, where they claim Balotelli’s agent Mino Raiola is trying to take the striker to France with PSG. The deal would see, Arsenal ending up signing their long term target Edinson Cavani. The Uruguayan international certainly has a market price of over £50m, and therefore would be a record signing for the club, should this fanciful and wishful thinking comes to fruition.
There lies the biggest catch – why on earth would PSG be gambling on a striker who has had a horrible tormenting time out this season? There are possibilities of Cavani moving out of PSG next summer, but why would the French giants replace such a talismanic striker with Balotelli?
TMW has an exclusive of their own, where they claim Greek team Olympiakos are interested in signing Liverpool forward in January. They would be prepared to sign him on loan for around 2m for the rest of the season.
I highly doubt Liverpool would sell him in January, even if they manage to bring Divock Origi on loan by paying an extra fee. Balotelli can still contribute from the bench and is still a better option than Rickie Lambert.
