Tottenham are reportedly lining up a bid for West Ham midfielder, and an Arsenal transfer target, Mohamed Diame.
Mohamed Diame has been arguably West Ham’s most influential player this season. The Hammers have been one of the surprise packages this season as they sit in 12th place in the league table and eight points clear of the relegation battle.
Diame’s performances in the West Ham midfield has drawn attention from a number of Premier League clubs and according to recent rumours Arsenal are highly interested to sign the Senegalese international.
But now Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race for his signature and are willing meet the £3.5 million release clause in Diame’s contract.
Dailymail reported on Tuesday that West Ham United are looking to offer Diame a new contract in order to remove the release clause in the current one. But according to Dailymail, Mohamed Diame is unhappy with this approach from the club as he is aware of various Premier League club’s interest in him.
In fact according to those reports, the 25-year-old is willing to take this matter to FIFA as he fears that the club will ‘renege’ his current contract.
But West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce has come out and rubbished those reports and blamed it on ‘disruptive agents’. Allardyce has gone on to claim that the club hasn’t received any formal bid from Arsenal or any other interested clubs.
Allardyce was quoted in press
“It’s the worst month of the year for every manager. Not only is there speculation about what players are coming in but speculation about your players going out, and the disruption that causes.
“At the moment we have had no bids from the type of clubs that have been speculated in the papers bidding for Mo Diame.
“Not an Arsenal, not whoever else, not Newcastle, not none of them. So he’s our player at the minute and hopefully [after] Thursday he will still be our player.”
The player himself has clarified the situation in a recent interview and assured that he has no plans of leaving the London club. Diame said:
“I know there are people out there saying things about me but I have spoken with the manager and told him that I want to stay here.
“I know the club wants to keep me too so I will continue to give my best for them. I knew when I signed that West Ham were going to make their mark on the Premier League.
“Since I came here I am enjoying every game I play on the pitch. I think I made a good choice because I’m very happy at this club.”
But according to the Guardian, Tottenham Hotspur are now lining up a bid for the Senegalese international.
Andre Villas-Boas’ first pick in the transfer market was Porto’s midfield general Joao Mountinho, but the Portuguese club’s high demands have forced Spurs to look elsewhere and at just £3.5 million, Diame could be a wonderful coup.
Spurs have already lost Sandro to injury for the rest of the season and would need to bring in a replacement. But if Spurs do sign another defensive midfielder, then the future of Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore will come under a lot of speculations.
