Tottenham announced today that they have completed the signing of former Chelsea and Arsenal defender William Gallas.
The 33-year-old chose not to renew his contract at Arsenal after four seasons with the Gunners, and he has now joined their North London rivals, penning a one-year deal with an option for a further year.
Earlier this summer, Gallas was reportedly close to a move to Greek champions Panathinaikos, and there were also links with Juventus, Hamburg SV, and Paris Saint-Germain, but in the end, the experienced Frenchman has chosen to remain in the Premier League.
A statement on Tottenham’s official website read, “are delighted to announce the signing of William Gallas on a one year deal.”
Gallas joined Chelsea from Marseille in 2001, and he made 230 appearances and scored 14 goals for the Blues in five seasons before moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2006 in the high-profile deal that saw Ashley Cole move to Stamford Bridge. In four seasons with the Gunners, Gallas made more than 140 appearances, scoring 17 goals.
