Tottenham Hotspur are looking to bring a striker to White Hart Lane before the transfer window shuts down and have made an approach for Lyon striker Lisandro Lopez.
The 29-year-old striker had been linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus throughout the January transfer window, but the interests have died down after the Old Lady signed the former France international Nicolas Anelka few days back.
Spurs have made a reputation for themselves for buying players in the eleventh hour and it seems like chairman Daniel Levy will remain active to bring in new faces at White Hart Lane through out the day.
The North London club were previously interested in another Lyon striker, Bafetimbi Gomis but according to French newspaper L’Equipe they have changed their targets to Lopez on Monday night.
Spurs have already offered a loan deal for the player, but Lyon are unhappy with such terms. The French club were annoyed with Levy’s approaches in the summer too when Spurs secured a deal for goal keeper Hugo Lloris on the final day of the transfer window in 2012.
The Argentina international joined the Ligue 1 outfit from Porto in 2009 and since he has made 104 league appearances for the club, scoring 54 league goals. This season, his appearances has been restricted to only 16 games, where he found the net six times.
Tottenham are lacking a considerable depth in their strike department as it was exposed again yesterday during their Premier League encounter at Carrow Road against Norwich City. The visitors were left frustrated for major part of the game and could only manage a draw, after midfielder Gareth Bale broke from his own half to score a stunning solo goal towards the end of the match.
Manager Andre Villas-Boas has Jermain Defoe as the only striker in the side while Emmanuel Adebayor is unavailable due to his participation in the African Cup of Nations.
Though Defoe has scored 10 goals in the league for Spurs this season, but hasn’t found the net since his Boxing Day strike against Aston Villa.
Though Lopez is not an out-an-out striker but his industry and European experiences could prove handy for Spurs if they manage to secure the deal.
