Arsenal summer target and Gunners fan Serge Aurier has given a hope for Tottenham Hotspur in acquiring his services after the right-back said he would be open for a Premier League switch.
The Toulouse defender has been linked with a move to the Emirates as a replacement for Bacary Sagna, who joined Manchester City on a free transfer this summer. He has hinted that he wants to join Arsene Wenger’s side in the summer transfer window.
The Gunners’ derby rivals Tottenham Hotspur are also in the race in signing Aurier. The Ivory Coast international is an Arsenal fan and the talented Ligue 1 star has come out in public and said that he has not agreed terms to join the Emirates club.
“I’ve been told that I had already signed with Arsenal. That is not true,” Aurier told Foot Mercato.
“All I can say is that the Premier League is the league I enjoy the most. Things are clear. I’ve always given my preference to England. But I’ve not given any sort of agreement to anyone. So I’m free to discuss with any club.”
Aurier’s latest comments would be a much needed boosted for Tottenham in order to lure him to make a switch to White Hart Lane. Kyle Walker is the first choice right-back in the squad. The African defender will give Mauricio Pochettino more options during team selection.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have cooled down their interest in signing Aurier as they have switched their focus on Newcastle United’s Mathieu Debuchy. The France international has already admitted the Gunners are interested in signing him and is closing in on completing a £10m move to Arsenal.
Debuchy already has Premier League experience under his belt and should the deal progress he is unlikely to take any time in settling to the physicality of the Premier League, which could have been the case if Wenger would have decided to sign Aurier.
Debuchy is a safe bet for Arsenal, while Aurier could join their league rivals Tottenham Hotspur if they are interested in securing a deal for the Ivory Coast right-back.
